Very variable medium to tall perennial, to 1,5m; stems hairless. leaves pinnate or pinnately-lobed, toothed or untoothed, the lower long-stalked, the upper much smaller and unstalked. Flowers pink or white, hermaphrodite, 4-8mm long, in almost rounded clusters. Fruit hairy or hairless.\nHabitat: Meadows, ditches, damp shaded places.\nFlowering Season: June-August.\nDistribution: W Europe, Denmark, Iceland.\nIn the Netherlands the Species is very common along Ditches.\n\nVarian is well known as Herbal Medicine ( the Roots are used).

Fruit 7-10mm, short beaked, bristle at the base, brown or black when ripe.\nHabitat: Rough grassy places, generally at low altitudes.\nFlowering Season: April-June.\nDistribution: Throughout Europe, except the far North.\n\nVery common in the Netherlands; one of the earliest umbels to come into flower.
