Acacia baileyana, also called Cootamundra waffle, is a large evergreen shrub or small tree, adorned with a wide-spreading canopy and weeping branches, clothed in feathery, finely cut, blue-gray leaves. The foliage remains appealing all year round. In late winter to early spring, clouds of bright golden-yellow, small, rounded flowers held in axillary racemes cover the branches and create a striking floral display. As some photos show, it is a great plant for slopes and banks.\nThese photos were taken on a very windy day in spring.

In summer, this tree has yellow flowers that produce these 'Chinese lantern' fruits. Its flowers in summer and its leaves in autumn earn the Pride of India (Koelreuteria paniculata) the title of 'Golden Rain Tree'. These trees were transported to the west from the far east in the 18th century. In this photo, the tree has predominantly golden yellow flowers to the left, and ripening green fruits (lanterns) to the right.

Numerous bright yellow flowers of Laburnum anagyroides in May
Photo showing the bright and extremely ornamental yellow flowers of a golden chain tree, more commonly known as common laburnum trees. The seeds of a laburnum tree are extremely poisonous, and so many people now opt for seedless cultivars, where the seed pods are empty. However, the leaves are still poisonous and quite toxic, and so laburnums should not be grown near a pond for that reason.
