Gothenburg, Sweden - April 30, 2023\n\nEach year on Walpurgis Night (30 April), students from Chalmers University of Technology in Gothenburg organize the Chalmers Cortège, a lively carnival parade. With approximately 1000 participants and 50 truck carriages, the parade showcases satirical and comical depictions of significant events that have occurred since the previous year's parade. The procession travels through the city center and draws an audience of roughly 250,000 individuals annually.\nThe Chalmers Cortège started in 1909 when students hired carriages to parade around the city in celebration of exchanging their black student caps for white ones. In 1911, the Chalmers Cortège Committee (CCC) was created to organize the procession. The current format of the Cortège dates back to 1920 and features satirical depictions of significant events from the past year. The CCC has arranged the Cortège every year since its inception, except for 1912 and 1940. The 2020 edition was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.\n\nThe photo shows the recreation of the 2022 FIFA world cup in Qatar with critical banners being hold by students.
