Flower of Indian balsam ((Impatiens glandulifera)), also known as Himalayan balsam. This is an invasive riverside plant now common in the UK. Here is a close up of one of the paler / white flowers, as opposed to the more common pink / red. The complicated 3D form of the flower is just one of the points of interest regarding this 'weed'. Loropetalum chinense, commonly called Chinese fringe flower, is a white-flowered broad-leaved evergreen shrub of the witch hazel family. It is native to woodlands in Japan, China and Southeast Asia. Leaves are pale green. Lightly aromatic, spidery flowers bloom in clusters in spring (late March-April). Each flower has four narrow, downward-drooping, strap-shaped white petals. However, it is the rubrum variety, with its reddish or pink flowers, that made this shrub popular in landscaping.
