A Reddish Egret (Egretta rufescens) is a medium-sized heron that is found along the southern coasts of the United States, Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean.  Although it has slowly expanded its range north along the southern California coast, it is classified by the IUCN as Near Threatened, as there are only 1,500-2,000 nesting pairs in the United States.
