RE: Your Loved Ones head cut off due to Broken Escalator's Overhead Safety Mechanism at MYER
Dear Chief Executive Officer,
I trust you are well.
In reference to the attached photo. I have escalated this Safety Concern to WorkSafe VIC previously in July 2015 and noted that the escalator’s overhead safety mechanism was fixed.
A recent inspection to MYER departmental store at Bourke street, Melbourne CBD, VIC, Australia indicate that the escalator’s overhead safety mechanism was maliciously broken again.
This is a recurring problem for MYER as it appears that their safety device could be snapped off easily. My email address to MYER customer service may have been banned, thus this safety concerned may go ignored.
There was an actual accident that resulted in injury or death of a child with his head trapped in between the ceiling and escalator in Singapore due to poor escalator safety device design (see photo). I don’t want this to happen to any child in Australia even though I am not an Australian citizen.
You could simply spare 3 mins to delegate this task to your assistant so she/he can delegate others to carry out the necessary review and implementation. By championing this change as a new project, this would definitely look great on your curriculum vitae and justify for significant salary increments and huge bonus payouts?
I refer to the above article and propose a revamp of the safety feature for the crevice between the escalator and ceiling at the mall to prevent the same incident from happening again.
I saw another design to prevent shoppers' heads from getting stuck between the escalator and the ceiling in #Melbourne, Australia - Myers in the city. (Refer to below Picture below).
The design creates a 90 degrees vertical platform that if your head hit the transparent plastic, your head would bounce off the danger area rather than getting stuck in it.
Please kindly take this tried, tested, approved and implemented design into your consideration for #Singapore's malls to prevent unfortunate incidents from recurring in future. (Accidents does not reflect well on designer, technicians that installed the safety feature at #Junction8, mall management and would affect your bonuses payout, career progression and job security of all stakeholders.) retail melbourne australia |
