I was shocked to discover that the safety escalator device (MYER – Bourke street, Melbourne city, VIC, Australia – Level 3 to 4. Photo taken 13/10/15 – 6:14 PM) that prevents your loved ones or your head from getting lodged in between the escalator hand rail and ceiling had been damaged again. I understand this is a constant frustration for MYER and given MYER’s current financial profitability, they may be reluctant to repair items that are non-profit generating. I write this letter from experience in Singapore where a boy was actually seriously injured in real lifeby having his head lodged in between the ceiling and escalator hand rail (you can google “STOMP Singapore” and email them for details) – so this is an accident waiting to happen. What if avoiding taking action on this matter results in your children or loved ones getting injured? Even though Human Lives are not that important, but think about the reputational damage that this matter can cause to MYER and WorkSafe Victoria’s reputation (if ignored); what will happen to your job security and salary increment if the press gets wind of this?
