Keywords: retail melbourne australia to organise toorganise How do you take advantage of this financial loophole from Cold Storage? I had paid $3.85 for Corona as indicated on the receipt, but the price tag on the shelf label indicates as $4.10 I would have paid the price indicated on the shelf. I saved $0.25 on each bottle and the supermarket incurred an opportunity cost or loss of $0.25. EXPLANATION: Took a chilled beer - #CoronaExtra (my favorite of the lot for its smooth and light taste without too much rough fizz) from the chiller. Went to Self-Checkout Machine. Scanned Beer Bottle. (Noted that i cannot deduct item from transaction that was scanned wrongly.) Earned PassionCard Points (wondered why i could not scan ONCE to earn passioncard points AND deduct from my passion Ez-Link Card?) Proceed to make payment. (No obvious way to encourage people to pay by Paywave - there was a recent campaign that #ColdStorage gave out recycled bags for Paywave (misalignment of values?)) Was charged $3.85 for one bottle of #CoronaExtra Noted from Price Label at the chiller, the beer should be priced at $4.10 Being tertiary educated, i know that i should not waste time that does not benefit me financially or other forms of enjoyment. Though my ethics called out to me to investigate further. (Integrity, Initiative and Involvement after office hours) Went to chiller to verify the price label and took a picture. (May sue me for taking pic due to possible embarassment of the ego of this store management / #ColdStorage? May consider this post (truthful or otherwise) may spread to the knowledge of more people = more damage? Without pics, how could i prove the authenticity of my point?) Went to cashier - Indian girl at quick checkout counter (timestamp as per date below for your investigation into staff roster) to verify on the price of #CoronaExtra. After scanning the barcode of #CoronaExtra, the checkout machine indicates $3.85 for the beer as per the store IT system. I highlighted this to the cashier and brought her to the chiller to show her that the system price and chiller price label for the beer DIFFERS. Cashier explained that chilled drinks command a higher price tag due to the fact that it is chilled. Cashier does not seem to understand the gravity of this situation. As i was in a hurry, i left the store. Learning Points: Identified a system loophole in #ColdStorage business process that results in financial losses. In terms of customer service, how would you feel if you are the customer? You could feel happy that you took advantage of the system, or disappointed at the management of #ColdStorage. Post can be used as a point of attack against management and staff of #ColdStorage Plaza Singapura outlet to reduce excess manpower, lower or eliminate bonuses to increase a bigger share of the pie out of #ColdStorage gross profit for 'others' bonuses. Critics: This is only $4.10 - $3.85 = $0.25 cents difference. Small Money! Forget it! Imagine customers did not highlight this, as it does not benefit them to escalate this. Why lose out savings $0.25? Imagine store staff and management did not notice or change this due to various reasons, incompetence, ego, pride, fear, etc Imagine the no. of #CoronaExtra beers sold in the past since store opening (sustained financial losses) Imagine the no. of #CoronaExtra beers that could be sold in future for one day, one year, a decade, a century? Imagine this system flaw does not affect this outlet only, but the entire #ColdStorage chain in Singapore, and/or World? Imagine this system flaw is not limited to #CoronaExtra but all chilled drinks. Imagine the no. of chilled drinks that are sold in #ColdStorage in Singapore and/or the world. What is the projected life span of Plaza Singapura store outlet? What is the projected life span of #ColdStorage (all local and international outlets) based on historical performance? What is the projected life span of the Self-Checkout machine till the next big invention / replacement? Does other supermarket competitors utilise the same business process? Self-Checkout machine and additional charges for chilled drinks? Do they have the same weakness in their systems? How much losses would be incurred if this is publicised underground or openly online and through media channels? What is the cost of public embarassment? How much potential financial losses are mitigated for #ColdStorage and potentially other competitors? Take the amount of financial losses that was avoided and reinvest in stocks and properties to earn compounding interest to diversify your portfolio for greater returns to pay yourself big bonus. How much would that amount roll over for one year, a decade, a century over the projected lifespan of #ColdStorage? Shhh keep to yourself! Highly paid, experienced and educated professors and management may have further insight and factors on this. After escalating this to #ColdStorage, the only gratitude i get, would be a one sentence reply consisting of "Thank you, blar, blar, blar". How would other businesses in other industries learn from this and strengthen their business process? If i only escalate this to #ColdStorage Customer Service channel, likely to be hidden up to store manager level, and customer service level. May only have fixed Plaza Singapura outlet only. How do you prevent the same occurrences from happening now and in the future in other outlets? How do you prevent the same thing from happening with #ColdStorage competitors? Do you think #ColdStorage will share this lesson learnt to her competitors? If i am ignored, how does this reflect the values of #ColdStorage? What are the effects of losing me as a customer? Losing my families, relatives, colleagues, friends, and other circles of influence. Pass mandate down my bloodline to never buy from#ColdStorage (my children and their families, my grandchildren and their families, and their circle of influence). Spend the next 60 years of my life spreading bad words. Currently my blog: bentsai.com which was setup in less than 2 months have 3400 views: average 100+ views a day.
