Keywords: Tonight I tried to climb the northwest mountain again. The ascent past yesterday’s endpoint was steep and a little frightening. All the rocks were sharp like knives sticking out of the earth, and there weren’t many stable places to step. Occasionally I would take a step up and then slide back down two or three feet.
Eventually the steep grade required me to climb like a Dall’s sheep, making zig-zag switchbacks all the way to the top. Near the peak, two birds flew right past me, zoomed to the top of the mountain. Lucky birds, I wish I could fly up to the top!
