Was mustered into service of the Confederate States in June 1861; served with distinction throughout that conflict, and, with a 'remnant of the 16' survivors surrendered at Appomattox. Their splendid new armory, erected at a cost of $150,000 by the City of Richmond, was dedicated on the 121st anniversary of their organization with elaborate ceremonies, in which the Governors of Rhode Island, Conn. and Va., with their Staffs, escort, etc. participated.
