Today is apparently Laskiaissunnuntai which has no obvious literal translation, but is a day related to the whole Lenten period, much like Shrove Tuesday. What you need to know is that it's the day when it is seemingly traditional to go sledging! We walked along to the nearest sledging hill (about 5.5k steps round trip, trivia fans) and sure enough there was lots of lovely sledging going on. This panorama tries to capture the scene. You'll see some organised stuff going on on the left, including some people preparing food. Laura tells me that there's a Finnish general election this April, and it's possible that some of this was organised by the electioneers though I'm not really sure. Although it's been close to freezing for a week or two, today it plummeted to -10 (in my honour?). This was great, but unfortunately came on the back of a couple of wet days so the pavements are very, very icy. After our walk we went to visit Piia and had a lovely time with the family, though Peetu moves about an awful lot and Laura did much better than I with photos, so I'll let her post some. All in all, a great first day proper. :) "Take pictures of snow" Sue said, and sure enough, here is a big one!
