To see a bit more of the line I elected to drive to Muirhead Avenue as it's both close to home and has safe, easy parking. From there I resolved to walk south and see how far 5,000 steps took me, before turning round and coming back. The answer to the question of 'how far' was the M62! This panorama shows the M62 flyover and a road bridge beyond. More interesting perhaps if the bridge to the right of the frame. This is the Liverpool to Manchester line, and it's right by Broadgreen Station. This particular piss-ant little station happens to be the oldest operating passenger railway station in the world. Apart from a few tiny island nations, there can't be many countries that don't have some kind of railway, and the first - the very first - was right here on our doorstep.
