Here, with the cover off, you can see that it's just an ordinary engine like the cars of yesteryear. :) In this case it's a Volvo D4192T 1.9 diesel engine. Or is it? Very sharp eyed pixel peepers might be able to make out the word 'Renault' printed on one of those components. That's not without good reason. Used by both Volvo and Mitsubishi this is a Renault F9Qt engine. Borrowing parts really isn't uncommon in the motor industry having been around since the days of the Lotus Esprit with its Marina door handles or even the Elan in the nineties with it's borrowed rear lights. With the massive investment required in new designs it's getting more common by the day. Whilst the French have some very, very wacky ways of screwing parts together, for years they've been making fairly bulletproof diesels. This one has 167k on and needed the timing belt replacing as well as a cambelt tensioner that was making a nasty vibration at tickover. All rosy now. :) I think I've probably shown you a picture of my engine bay before, but it probably had that bloody big black cover over it so you can't see anything.
