That was today. I saw those front legs close together and thought it was a St. Andrew's Cross Spider. Of course it isn't. It's a European garden spider, or the far cooler sounding diadem spider, and she's a female. We were watching her earlier in the week, sitting serenely in the middle of the web, when a little fly strayed into it. Quick as a flash she was out, prey bitten, wrapped, and stored for later, then back into the middle of the web again. Anything that eats flies has to be ok with me!
