Keywords: abloy lock padlock project 365 project365 utility I noticed this the other day when I was meeting Laura at the bus stop. At the end of Green Lane there's an interesting looking grey box labelled as a '275kV link pillar'. That's a lot of volts! It's got dire warning signs all over it that it's not to be opened by anyone other than a senior authorised engineer, and it's got this very shiny lock on. It's the lock that caught my attention. This is model 231 lock from Abloy, and it's stamped with Finland, which is why it caught my eye. I've not heard of them, but Laura had - they make the front door lock on her Mum's flat. I started exploring, and what a journey it took me on! Abloy locks are very, very good. This is a chrome plated, brass cased padlock with a boron shackle, and they start from about seventy quid and just go up from there. This one is made by Abloy in one of their two production facilities in Finland, but they're a much, much bigger firm than that. They're seemingly half of the ASSA Abloy corporation which is a huge conglomeration from Sweden that is the world's largest lock firm. You may well have never heard of them, but amongst their brands you'll find such familiar names as Mul-T-lock, Chubb and Yale! Who knew? I didn't.
