I turn it on and she walks out. ;) Interestingly enough her Dad loves to play darts, but I guess that's another story. Of course for us Brits it's the world Championship Final at the Lakeside tonight, and it's on now as I'm uploading. Darts is of course hugely divided, with the old school BDO being overtaken by the showbiz hoopla of Sky's PDC. Whilst it's true that the PDC has the biggest players my viewing is steeped in tradition. The World Champion is decided in January at Frimley Green. One of my issues is that the PDC uses arena venues with crowds of 10,000 people, usually all shit faced. For me a great darts match to watch is a tense one, and that tension is conveyed by the dynamic swing between absolute silence and the crowd going completely mental. A 10,000 crowd is NEVER silent, and it's just not fun to watch. Whatever you think of darts, it's one of the most accessible televised games out there. Spend thirty quid and you've got a full set up at home. Make it eighty quid and you're using exactly the same stuff that the guys on the TV are using. I don't think you can say that of any other televised sport/game. Anyway, in honour of the final being played tonight I popped down to the cellar with the macro tubes and took a picture. :) Yes, I'm afraid to Laura's horror I do love watching darts on the telly.
