The previous day she sent a card from Sainte Adresse, Le Havre, so I assume that she was still there. As far as I can tell (corrections and additions welcome) this reads: "Cannot get on with letter in spite of no work. These are some of the patients & the ones in caps standing orderlies the patients are mostly the same. Had lunch today with Arnold & family quite a treat. We are also taking French lessons from one of the ladies here 4.30 to 5.30. Still very tired of everything. Lovely town & sea here. Take 2 hrs off every day & go for a walk mostly with Sister. [???] We resign in [???] so stay in room & learn French. Hope for a job. Mar." So here we have yet more suggestion that Margaret arrived in France without a job and was looking for one. Intriguing.
