As far as the eye can see it’s wide open spaces. No people, no trees, not even any animals. It took about 2 hours to set up camp. We made our kitchen, sleeping area, and bathroom in a big triangle for bear safety, keeping smells away from the tents and waste away from the food. After setting up the kitchen, we walked to the northern side of the landing strip because we thought it would be a nice private spot for a bathroom, and a good view too. Apparently we weren’t the only ones with this idea… Julia found blooms of “white roses,” past visitor’s tissue, scattered around and peeking out from under rocks. Yuck! Finally we set up our tents on the west end of the landing strip. The entire bench is at a slant and really rocky, so it took a while to find a comfortable flat place for tents.
