The ferry sunk and claimed 40 lives. During the rescue efforts, the eastern side of the Fort Macquarie Tram Depot was transformed into a casualty clearing station as bodies of the dead and injured were placed on the pathway at the Man O' War Steps. His 60-year career spanned the romantic age of sail and two world wars. The photos in the collection were taken mainly in Sydney and Newcastle during the first half of the 20th century.
