The 1 to 6 central spines are straightened up or twisted. They are 1 to 3 centimeters long, needle-like and yellow to brown. The 10 to 15 radial spines, however, are more subtle and 0.6 to 3 centimeters long. They are also acicular, straight or curved, is white to light brown.
