SR 37, formerly a median-divided, 4-lane highway, is being expanded to three lanes in each direction from the I-69/SR 37 interchange to the I-69/Sample Road interchange about 5 miles north of Bloomington. The installation of the concrete barrier wall allows Interstate 69 to utilize a right-of-way roughly equal to that of SR 37, thereby saving dozens of homes and businesses, which would have been otherwise in an expanded right-of-way, from razing. Of interest, note that no formwork is utilized to construct the barrier wall. This is now standard with machines such as the GOMACO GT 6330 Slipform Paver [pictured], which accept and shape wet concrete. As can be imagined, the wet concrete mix must strictly fall within certain parameters of consistency to be used in this type of construction.
