It's the last one of the gorgeous Christmas box, and didn't I save the weirdest for last! Salmiakki is of course a bit of a Scandinavian oddity. The basic flavour element is ammonium chloride, which gives it the taste of a salty liquorice. The Scandies go nuts for it, and it's used in all kinds of different products, including pastilles, ice cream and in this case, chocolate. I first tried it in a Turkish Pepper sweet that I gobbed out. I then tried it in a Fisherman's Friend and I gobbed that out. This chocolate I actually managed to finish. :) The filling is a gooey, almost liquid, liquorice. I already know that salt and chocolate is a viable combination, and here it works well. The chocolate takes the edge off the saltiness letting the liquorice come through. The downside is I'm not a fan of liquorice. :) This is certainly the most palatable presentation of salmiakki I've encountered, and that alone makes it well worth tasting. A huge, huge thanks to Sanni for a fabulous Christmas present that I've really, really enjoyed. :) Fanfare! It's the last one of the gorgeous Christmas box, and didn't I save the weirdest for last!
