'During the period February 25th to September 16th 1918 this W.O. has performed exceptionally good work at every station the Ambulance has occupied. While at LOCRE Divisional Rest Station he not only carried out his usual duties but arranged bi-weekly concerts for the patients (180). During the move to the SOMME in March and through the period April 21st to May 30th when his ambulance manned the Advanced Dressing Stations his work was very praiseworthy. Reliefs of Bearers and of nursing men were carried out with clockwork regularity. Since August 8th the work of this W.O. has been all that was possible. His best work was at the M.D.S. near VILLERS BRETTONNEUX, when, in addition to our wounded, we had unexpectedly to cope with 350 wounded Canadians on the 9th August. He then organised a room and special squads of dressers and the convoy was disposed of in record time. He continually sets the best example of hard work and loyalty to the cause before the men, and from the inception of this unit his untiring energies, his never failing reliability devotion to duty and his manner of handling men have been admirable. His excellent services merit a special reward.' Source: 'Commonwealth Gazette' Date: 3 June 1919 (found on ebay) His war records: discoveringanzacs.naa.gov.au/browse/records/271939.
