To insure the proper regulation of the grounds, the grading of all lots and sections shall be done under the direction of the Superintendent, by men in the regular employ of the Company. 2. Railings or posts and chains are not recommended, but will be permitted provided they are not more than eighteen inches above the surface. The Directors would recommend, instead of railings or posts and chains, a cut stone boundary post, placed at each corner of the lot, not more than six inches out of the ground upon which the name and number can be inscribed. 10. Lettered boards designating graves will not be allowed. 11. Close hedges inclosing lots must not exceed two feet 2 ½ in. in height. 12. Foundations for monuments must be built of solid masonry, with good cement or mortar, and bee not less than four feet deep. 13. No slabs will be allowed, unless placed in a horizontal position, and no head or foot stones will be permitted exceeding two feet in height above ground, unless placed in a cut stone base, with stone foundation four feet deep. 14. The walls of vaults shall be confined within the limits of the premises, and they shall be at least 16 inches if not brick, and 24 inches if of stone, in thickness; the inside crown of the arch shall be at least 4 feet below the surface of the ground, and not less than one foot in thickness, if of brick, and 18 inches if of stone; and the entrance to the same shall be covered with a stone or an iron plate, and these covered with earth, so that the said stone (or iron plate) and earth shall be at least 3 feet in depth, and on a level with the surrounding ground. And where the vault is excavated vertically in the side of the hill there shall be double iron doors with at least a space of 18 inches between the outer and inner doors. 15. No steps to lots shall be built except special permission be obtained from the Superintendent. The steps must be of solid cut stone, with side pieces, and placed on a good stone foundation. 16. Heavy loads will not be allowed to enter the Cemetery when the roads are in an unfit condition. 17. Persons who inclose lots or make other improvements upon them after having been graded, thereby disarranging the previous improvements made by the Company, will be charged the cost of putting the same again in order. 18.All persons are forbid cutting walks or planting trees upon the margins along the avenues, or upon any other ground belonging to Company. 19. Improvements made on lots by the Company will be charged for as follows: For sodding each lot of 144 superficial feet……..$5 00 For grading and seeding ………………..$3 00 For keeping lot in order, per annum ……………..$5 00 20. The Directors have no wish to interfere with individual taste in the construction of monuments, etc.; but to protect the interest of each separate proprietor, they reserve to themselves explicitly the right to prevent the erection of large improvements which might interfere with the general effect, or obstruct any principal view."
