The Camp Mazinaw Boys Camp operated at the site of the Bon Echo Inn. This rare video produced in 1931 shows some of the fun the boys enjoyed while at the Camp. It appears some of the footage was taken at the dam on the south end of the Mazinaw. This Camp is not be confused with Camp Mazinaw which operated from 1940 to 1986 lower on the lake from Bon Echo. At the time, the Bon Echo Inn was owned by Merrill Denison. In the 1920s business had slowed and Merrill struggled with the expenses of operating a remote Inn. To offset expenses Merrill rented the Inn, the White House and the Manager's House for the operation of a boy's camp. Three brothers from Belleville, Clair, Walter and Arthur Leavens who were in aviation training (Leavens Brothers) and later boat building, re-opened the Inn. Merrill used the remainder of the property for his personal use and for writing. It was during the tenure of the Leavens Brothers the Inn burned to the ground following a lightning storm in 1936.
