But today I ran into a family of Black Bears! I was at Far North Bicentennial Park today since it's 55 degrees, going on 60 (maybe!), and very sunny. I ran into a momma Black Bear with 3 cubs. I only had my 'little boy' pocket camera with me but I got some decent shots and some very nice, if shaky, video. As has been my experience with Black Bears, the momma, even with three young cubs, was not aggressive. The momma bear was coming up pretty close to me and she did "grunt" at me but none of her other body language said she was going to attack. She was very calm. I was amazed how close I got to them. It constantly amazes me how very different Black Bears are from Grizzly Bears. The momma wanted the three cubs to leave the tree and move on... you can see it in the video. She made this maneuver three times in a row but none of the cubs followed her. She finally gave up, and all four of them ended up near the top of the really large tree. I didn't really edit the video so the wide-angle shot of the tree to see how big it is... is vertical for some unknown reason, not horizontal. Sorry. I may edit it sometime... yeah, right! YouTube video I just uploaded: youtu.be/3ZR_g6y5OTI I'm not on a daily posting basis yet but Spring is very close! :) Hello! Yes, I am still alive! I haven't had anything worth posting for sometime.
