Keywords: mountain landscape outdoor mountain peak hill ridge mountain ridge arete mountainside As the Bhagirathi group comes into view, Mt. Sudarshan wanes. The white form visible at top left of this picture is Sudarshan's snowy shoulder. Chirbasa is just beyond the green patch at the center. The Bhagirathi group of peaks reveals itself for the first time just before Chirbasa. From left to right are II, IV, III and I (numbered in order of height). If you look closely, Bhagirathi II quite looks like an old man's face - with 2 eyes shut in meditation, a bit of a nose (here's where you have to indulge your imagination a little), a mouth and a flowing beard - a form like that at the very source of the Ganga fits in quite neatly with the myth of the sage Bhagirath, who meditated for ages to bring Ganga to Earth. Bhagirathi IV is quite dwarfed by it's cousins, and is often not considered a peak at all by local guides. That only happens at the Himalayan scale - a 6193m peak gets so dwarfed by it's neighbors that it's barely talked about. Sort of like Ringo Starr. As the Bhagirathi group comes into view, Mt.
