A DEC alert, sent out Friday morning indicates that the flow has slowed a bit. For two weeks, it was going at 50 gallons a minute. Friday's alert says it's now flowing at a rate of 25 gallons a minute. Doing the math, based on the city's data, it appears nearly one and a half million gallons of untreated sewage has spilled into the Mohawk by way of the Chuctununda Creek since July 25. NewsChannel 13 has been reaching out to Amsterdam’s engineer and mayor all week but no one has called them back.
