The crash happened in November 1920 as a "Scout" plane, carrying despatches from Fermoy to Waterford Barracks and manned by flying officers Briggs and McKiehan, crashed into the roofs of two houses opposite the Barracks. The house on the left was Mr Aspel's licensed premises, and the one on the right was privately owned by a Mrs McSweeney.
