Talbot fought for Henry VII of England at the Battle of Stoke. George Talbot had Sheffield Manor built in 1516 to serve as a country retreat. Thomas Cardinal Wolsey stayed here as Talbot's guest on his way to face trial for treason in 1530. In 1520 he had a chapel added to the parish church at Sheffield to serve as a family chapel with a burial vault below. A monument to Talbot and his two wives can still be seen in the church (now Sheffield Cathedral).
