The Chorley Pals are very much in our thoughts. On 16th February 1915 after basic training, 212 men and 3 officers of the Chorley Pals (eventually to become Y Company, 11th Battalion of the East Lancashire Regiment) marched from here to Chorley railway station for further training and eventually to the Somme. Casualties were heavy with 31 killed in the field with a further 3 who died from injuries within a month and 59 wounded. 21 of the men have unknown graves. This is a very abbreviated account of the Chorley Pals.
