The cruisers were first commissioned in September 1937 and June 1938, respectively, displaced 9,700 tons and were 608 feet in length. Brooklyn was renamed O’Higgins and served for another 40 years until scrapped in 1992. Nashville served as Captain Prat until 1982 when she continued to serve for three more years as Chacabuco.
