I saw women fleeing with their children from civil war, drought and other abuses, denying their political rights being one of them. I made the decision to stand up and advocate for these women. Women in Somalia are said to be 70% of the population and they suffer more than anyone else. It is because of this that we decided it is time to actively join in decision making institutions. We are not looking for the 30% representation to compete with men. We simply want to sit with the decision makers and be part of the political decisions that affect us.
